trauma

Traumatic experiences can profoundly impact our sense of self, how we see others, and the world in general. These terrifying and life-threatening experiences leave you feeling powerless in a chaotic and dangerous world. Where there was once a sense of safety, you now feel on edge and distrustful of others. You avoid your own thoughts and feelings about what happened and feel cut off and numb to the world around you. You might avoid intimacy, certain places, certain people, or anything that is a reminder of that horrible event.

How I can help...

Together we will help you process the feelings and thoughts about your trauma that you have been avoiding, which are keeping you stuck. By processing these feelings and thoughts, the trauma memories will lose their power over you. I will help you recognize and modify the narrative you have been telling yourself about the event, and change behaviors that are getting in the way of your recovery. Collaboratively we will help you develop more balanced and realistic beliefs about the event, yourself, and others. Once we do this work you will be able to accept the reality of what happened to you, feel your natural emotions about it, and move forward with your life in a meaningful way.
